Whakanuia means "To acknowledge, to promote, to celebrate", and the purpose of creating such an event was about taking leadership (as tangata whenua - people of the land) and bringing our community together to celebrate Waitangi Day within a living Maori environment - enabling all visitors to enjoy a day of fun, sharing and learning.
This year will be the 5th anniversary of Whakanuia, and like previous years, we have chosen a continent as the theme of the day to celebrate. This year we will focus on Africa, with displays, entertainment, food, and arts & craft.
So head on down to Whakarewarewa Thermal Village for a fun-filled family day.
Please visit our website if you would like to purchase a Whakanuia Pass, at a special Whakanuia day only rate.
All Rotorua residence, with proof of residency and photo ID, can enter with a gold coin donation. All proceeds will go back in to the local community.
