Blue Pacific Gallery

Works from the Port Nicholson Handweavers formed as a group in 1975.

Members work individually and meet monthly for workshops, discussions and the exchange of ideas as well as hearing speakers from other disciplines. This format is very successful – it allows members to develop their own style and at the same time benefit from the stimulation of the group. Weaving from the group has been exhibited nationally and internationally and several members belong to the Professional Weavers’ Network of New Zealand Inc. Members are experienced in all types of weaving including floor rugs, wraps, scarves, fine fabrics, tapestry. Most members spin (though this is not a spinning group) and some are very experienced felters.

Port Nic meets at 2pm, every 3rd Saturday of the month at the Hutt Art Society Clubrooms, Myrtle Street, Lower Hutt. Visitors are always welcome. The workshops are held over the winter months in the mornings of meeting days to study various weave structures, or dyeing techniques. Some members are tutors, and welcome new students.
