Kia OraFM, Access Manawatu, and Palmerston North City will host a free Waitangi Day concert in the Square, Te Marae O Hine on Feb 6 2012.

The concert will include a opening whakatau, top-name artists along with local performers, children’s attractions, craft and food stalls, and cultural exhibits. Two big name entertainers have been confirmed for the day - The Babysitter’s Circus and Tomorrow People.

The Babysitters Circus is a four-piece New Zealand electronica/bass and funk/groove ensemble that has recently been featured on the top NZ Billboard songs with their hit, “Everything’s Going to Be All Right.” The band consists of Opshop’s Jason Kerrison and Tim Skedden, Jasmie Greenslade (better known as hip-hop artist Maitreya) and Selwyn Leaf.

Tomorrow People are purveyors of what they describe as ‘sunshine reggae’. It is a sound built around strong vocals, soothing harmonies, catchy hooks, raps, and feel good rhythms. The 8 piece band of mixed descent (Maori/Pacific Island) includes members from Palmerston North and Wellington.

Also on stage will be local musicians Josh Ellery and Tama K and The Creed.

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and blanket to sit on. Free water will be available (please bring something to put it in), along with food for purchase.

For stallholder applications please contact Shelly Deegan at the Palmerston North iSITE or shelly@manawatunz.co.nz
