Ann Vernon who is a medical cannabis user and local activist has been summarily charged for the cultivation of cannabis which has a maximum sentence of 2 years jail and/or $2,000 fine. This will be her first appearance on this charge. We will be holding a court support protest for her.
Ann is 39 years old and uses cannabis for a number of health issues including chronic intractable pain & post-traumatic stress disorder.
We plan to raise public awareness within the community and encourage other people to come along and show their support for the medicinal use of cannabis, we desire to protect some of the most vulnerable members of our society and also raise the issue that it is a human right for people to choose what goes into their own body.
With about 80% of New Zealanders supporting medicinal cannabis, there is a good chance to send a strong message to government to change the laws!
The New Zealand Law Commission says clinical trials should begin and Police should leave medicinal users of cannabis alone… Natural cannabis (plant material) is now officially accepted as a medicine by 17 of the states in the USA as well as many other countries.
