The Art of Translation - Jenny Erpenbeck, Michael Hulse, Karen Leeder, Marco Sonzogni
Join four international guests in a session examining the art of translation. It will be led by Oxford University Professor in Modern German Literature Karen Leeder, who has translated several contemporary German poets into English.
Based in Berlin, Jenny Erpenbeck writes short stories, plays and novels. Her recent highly acclaimed novel, Visitation, is a haunting evocation of Germany’s buried secrets. Michael Hulse is a British poet, translator, teacher, critic and editor whose great translations include W.G. Sebald’s The Rings of Saturn. Italian academic and translator Marco Sonzogni is the Director of the New Zealand Centre for Literary Translation at Victoria University.
With support from the Lion Foundation.
