Alan Hollinghurst - The Stranger’s Child.
One of Britain’s finest contemporary novelists, Alan Hollinghurst won the 2004 Man Booker Prize for The Line of Beauty, the last in a quartet of novels including The Swimming Pool Library, The Folding Star and Spell. Written over 20 years these novels explore gay life in Britain, from its pre-1967 illegality through to the hedonism of the 1980s.
Hollinghurst’s work embraces themes of sexuality, family history and memory. His latest novel, The Stranger’s Child, a multi-layered, multi-generational epic following the lives of two families from the eve of the Great War to the close of the 20th century, won him the 2011 Galaxy Award for UK Author of the Year. Join Alan Hollinghurst in conversation with Finlay Macdonald.
With support from the Lion Foundation.
