With Pip Nicholls.

Thomas Merton clearly articulated notions of the false-self and where to find the real self, the divine in ourselves. Since then, Thomas Keating has further expanded on the understanding with how to heal the false-self, so that the true self is experienced within. “Yesterday, in Louisville, at the corner of 4th and Walnut, I suddenly realised that I loved all the people and that none of them were, or could be totally alien to me. It was as if waking from a dream - the dream of my separateness, of the “special” vocation to be different. My vocation does not really make me different from the rest of humanity, or put me in a special category except artificially, juridically. I am still a member of the human race - and what more glorious destiny is there..., since the Word was made flesh and became, too, a member of the human race!”

This weekend is an opportunity to learn from these two contemporary mystics and to make their wisdom relevant to our own ‘4th and Walnut Street’.

Pip Nicholls has been a member of the Aubert Baxter Merton Kirk Catholic Lay Community for over 35 years. She spent time at the Carmelite Spiritual Life Institute, Colorado, USA and since returning to NZ has been a member of the NZ Contemplative Network and involved in bringing contemplation teachers to NZ. In her work as a retreat facilitator and spiritual companion she hopes to create environments where people can naturally get in touch with their contemplative soul and have a deeper relationship with the ‘stuff’ of their own life and the life of what Merton calls, our true self. More can be read about what she does on her website: www. thegentleartofknowing.co.nz

Accommodation may be available on request (single).
