Unique and Heritage Collections.

'Celebrate Samoa at the Library' - 50th anniversary of the 'Treaty of Friendship' between New Zealand and Samoa.

The Treaty was signed on the 1 August 1962 by New Zealand High Commissioner John Bird Wright with Samoan Prime Minister Fiame Mataafa Faumuina.

50 years on, at Victoria University of Wellington Library, the Treaty of Friendship exhibition acknowledges our VUW alumni who played a large part as constitutional advisors towards Samoa’s Independence: Professor J.W. Davidson and Professor Colin C. Aikman; High Commissioners Sir Guy Powles and J.B. Wright; External affairs officials J.M. McEwen and F.H. Corner; research covered by former VUW Historian Mary Boyd; Lauofo Meti (who played a key role in drafting the Samoan Constitution); and contemporary artworks by Pacific Studies students from Victoria University.

Exhibition runs: 13 - 31 August 2012

Curated by Mishelle Muagututi'a and Sue Hirst
