Robot garage band the Trons are back with more arms, instruments and a supercharged control program. After a year of rebuilding and rewiring, the band hit the stage again at the Hamilton Fringe Festival, joined by drum and bass stormtroopers "Rumple and Stiltskin", garage psychobillies "The Redheads" and multimedia experimentalists "The Cult of the Dead Light-Bulb".
A bit about the Trons:
The Trons have no human members, all instruments being played by machines built from recycled and salvaged materials. The songs are original and the instruments are standard human ones. Shows include live video feeds from miniature cameras mounted on the instruments that view the inner workings of the robots. The band are influenced by the likes of The White Stripes, The Velvet Underground, and fellow electronic pioneers Kraftwerk.
The Trons' first gig was at an unsuspecting garden party in the summer of 2008, but viral internet videos led to the band being packed into flight cases and heading off to France, opening the Mercedes stand at the Paris auto show. Four years, 120 gigs, two European tours and a CD later the band, have also just undergone a year's solid redevelopment to see what machines with guitars can really do. This is the first gig with their new material, before heading off to Melbourne for the International Arts Festival.
There is more info and videos found by googling "the Trons", or troll through their Facebook site above.
