A special fundraising event to benefit the Hollywood Cinema refurbishment project - ensuring the on-going survival of this unique home for Auckland's historic Wurlitzer pipe organ. Join us for an afternoon of laughter and entertainment!
Before the days of sound movies, we had the “silents”. These motion pictures were brought to life, first by costly orchestras and then in the 1920s, by the mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ. Hollywood Cinema “house organist” Ron Clark will bring the silent screen to life as he accompanies the classic Charlie Chaplin comedy of 1921, “The Kid”, with music and sound effects provided by the Wurlitzer pipe organ.
The little tramp stumbles over a baby boy in the street, unwilling to get involved at first, he just cannot ignore the baby’s smiling face and finally adopts the boy. Five years pass, and the child becomes the tramp's partner in minor crime, throwing stones to break windows that the tramp can then repair. Then the boy’s Mother finds him and the fun begins!
Show features a "play-in" from the Wurlitzer organ, some comedy shorts in the first half, then our main feature - the silent movie accompanied by the Wurlitzer pipe organ.
Tickets on sale at the door on the day from 1.15pm. For more info, contact James on (09) 525 7067.
