Why, asks Kermit, are there so many songs about rainbows? In researching this profound question, Auckland chamber choir Viva Voce – under Choral Director John Rosser – has discovered a wealth of music not just about rainbows, but colour in general.
The result is a riot of colour in the form of new Viva Voce programme featuring songs in all tints and tones.
Blue evokes moons and melancholy, green is ever present in gardens and nature, while black is the colour of a bird and my true love’s hair. Red is obviously love and roses, while indigo expresses a mood and faces turn a whiter shade of pale.
In its vibrant programme, Viva Voce performs the works of such luminaries as Stanford, Monteverdi, Byrd, Arcadelt, Britten, Vaughan Williams, Finzi, Lennon & McCartney, Rodgers, Hamilton and Marshall.
