The NZ Chamber Soloists have featured regularly in local concerts, and they teach at the University of Waikato, so it is easy to forget that they rank as international chamber musicians. This time they bring the flavours of Greece to our South Waikato audience with a Kalamiris violin sonata and Three Island Songs by NZ-Greek composer John Psathas. Trios by Mozart and Rachmaninov round off the programme.
In two months the Chamber Soloists tour with this music to Greece and other overseas venues, but they are equally committed to promoting young Waikato musicians, and following on from a local pianists' concert last year, have invited Timothy Gray of Tirau to be part of their junior music academy Accelerando. Young pianists have also been invited to master classes at the university.
The concert, hosted by the South Waikato Music Society, promises to be full of the passion and emotion that is the hallmark of this group.
