Rock Live @ The Vic

The February 10th Victoria Theatre show is the first full rock concert to be staged at Devonport's newly refurbished Victoria Theatre. Come along and experience the intimacy and excitement of listening to great NZ bands in a 100 year old purpose built performance venue. Other local-bands-made-good have also confirmed dates with full details to be advised soon.

The Earlybirds

First cab off the rank, and springing out of the well-established Devonport music scene, The Earlybirds have continuously honed their sound, style and stagecraft in venues small and large around the country.

It's no wonder that people across the country have been digging the band. The Earlybird's electrifying live show (honed through their years of relentless performing) coupled with their magnetic stage presence makes them a formidable live experience. And that's before we even begin to speak about the quality of their song writing, which, as guitarist and backing vocalist
Kane ter Veer explains is a total group effort.

No matter where the band plays - from sweaty basement dives to sharing a main stage with, amongst others, Opshop, the Feelers, Midnight Youth, The Checks and Stereophonics - each gig brought with it new rewards and new fans.

"The audience have always been cool with us and it's such a great feeling," confirms vocalist Filip Kostovich. "Going onstage, playing our songs and transferring our energy to the people is just the best buzz because people really enjoy what we do"

This concert features The Earlybirds at their favourite venue - the recorded the great video for their hit "Runaway" here - the night is about local talent giving something back to the fans that supported them. For the fans it is a chance to reconnect with the vibrancy, power and energy of this
archetypal Devonport rock band.

The Earlybirds are:

Filip Kostovich - Lead Vocals/ Keys
Mike Cannon - Lead Guitar
Chris Hurn - Bass
Kane ter Veer - Guitar / Backing Vocals
Sean Patterson - Drums

Five Mile Town

Recent winners of the North Shore SmokeFree RockQuest, 5 Mile Town are an Indy-Folk Trio.

Louis McDonald, Adam Quigley, and Livi Heeringa write and perform appealing original songs, from the sensitive "Balloons" through to Mumford and Sons-esque "I'm Listening", a high energy rolling epic of foot drum, harmonica, mandolin, all woven with slick acoustic duets. Think Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons and you're almost there.

The McDonald-penned "Balloons" was picked as one of the top 50 original songs for The Play It Strange 2011 CD.

Five Mile Town recently wowed audiences in November 2011 at The Victoria Theatre as a support band for Anna Mac & Jesse Sheehan. Fresh, modern and accessible indy-folk, performed with great clarity and accomplishment. Their new EP will be available during the show.
