A talk by Dr Peter Leech, senior lecturer in History and Art History at Otago University who has just returned from Akdeniz University in Turkey following a residency as Visiting Professor at the National University of Mexico, where he is a Fellow of the Institute of Aesthetic Research. Dr Leech will contextualise the all-black-ness in New Zealand painting: Mrkusich and Hotere, beginning with some historical ‘social cycles’ and including black painting in the 1960s. In association with the exhibition Back in Black.
