Mix one part old-time medicine show, one part hillbilly swing, spice with a bit of country blues and New Orleans jazz and you have the Tabasco Tom and Doc White show.
Tabasco hails from Long Island, New York and is steeped in the traditions of the American musical heartland. Tabasco found himself in Australia in 1999 looking for like-minded souls passionate about keeping the music he loved fresh but faithful, energetic but respectful, adventurous but grounded. He didn’t have to look very far because just over the hill in the Dandenong Ranges, Doc White was trying to do the same thing. Joined by Broderick Smith on harmonica, Tabasco and Doc deliver the sounds and rhythms of this incredible musical heritage.
Tabasco and Doc’s new self-titled CD is being played on JJJ, PBS and RRR and features 4 original tunes and their unique take on the blues and roots of others.
Tabasco Tom Rogerson; vocals, guitar, slide guitar – born Long Island, New York. Over the past few decades Tom has shared the stage with Bonnie Raitt, John Hartford, Jimmy Buffett and the late great Sarah Vaughn.
Doc White; vocals, banjitar, mandolin, guitar, ukulele, percussion was born in Adelaide. Doc’s song Cropduster Blues won song of the year at the 2004 VicTas Blues Awards.
Broderick Smith harmonica and vocals, started playing folk and blues music back in 1962. Leaving school and having a variety of jobs, he joined legendary blues outfit the Adderley Smith Blues Band. But his first commercially recorded work was on Harvest EMI records in 1972 with Carson, a boogie and blues band. This was his first real taste of travelling the country and playing music. Then in 1973 he helped form The Dingoes, a legendary country rock group that is a main inspiration behind the modern country rock explosion.
