A journey of grieving through stitch and poetry...
“Following the untimely death of my 18 year old son Lachlan in a house fire in 2007, I experienced a grief so profound it threatened my whole being. After walking alone for some time, I sought counselling and read a number of books, both of which helped me comprehend and understand, to some degree at least, the process and the depth of emotion involved in such tragic loss.
"I came to realise that in order to move forward I needed to not only grieve ‘with my head’, but also to grieve ‘with my heart’. Once I had created a space for this to happen, the creative and emotive processes combined to create this series of stitching which illustrate separate facets of the grieving process, my personal journey through this tumultuous period.
"Each piece is accompanied by text, written by my daughter Rhiannon, exploring the journey from her view point, as my daughter, and also Lachlan’s sister. This collection of stitching and poetry is dedicated to our beautiful, talented son and brother who we continue to mourn deeply, but through whose death we are learning so much about the goodness of life. My hope is that the sharing of this journey will touch your creative souls” - Sue McLean
“Our lives are shaped as much by those who leave us as they are by those who stay. Loss is our legacy. Insight is our gift. Memory is our guide.” - Hope Edelman
