Auckland’s cult calypso-blues band Storehouse visits Waiheke for the first time, with a concert at the Artworks Community Theatre, celebrating the release of the single “Adam in the Garden” from their debut album “Live Humble”.
Assembled around UK-born singer/guitarist Tom Rodwell, Storehouse present a wildly entertaining and eminently danceable tour through the lesser-known musical alleyways including slave spirituals, Bahamanian calypso, street-preacher rave-ups and gutbucket rent party blues.
The hard-touring Rodwell has averaged over 100 shows per year since 2004, and has performed widely in the UK, Switzerland, the US and Holland, and throughout NZ, where they have performed at numerous festivals and at clubs, including Auckland’s infamous bohemian HQ, the Wine Cellar.
Storehouse also features the “velveteen vocals” of singer Coco Davis (an expert in the savage world of early female blues and jazz), as well as percussionist extraordinaire Chris O’Connor (a veteran of the SJD and Don McGlashan bands) and guitar innovator Phill Dryson (of Meatbix and Benka Boradovsky Bordello Band notoriety).
