“Invisible” setting for small stones. This course is suitable only for more advanced jewellery enthusiasts.
Tutor: Vaune Mason.
Required equipment: strong magnifying glasses / head-sets or lenses on a stand.
Recommended equipment: your own flexishaft dremel or similar.
This is a long-awaited stone-setting course. Please note: this course has an optional metal cost - this is because we recommend you practise your first few settings on “scrap” silver, and then go on to set stones in existing projects.
Strong magnifying lenses are a must because you will be working in very tiny scale - if you already wear glasses, we suggest wearing jeweller’s magnifying head-sets or two pairs of glasses (yes - it works!)
Your own dremel is useful, because you need to learn how to use your own flexishaft tool to drill and form the settings. Please let us know if you plan to bring one.
This short course will be an intense session learning to set small faceted stones in an “invisible” or “pave” style setting.
You will receive a small set of tools with this course - enough to go away with the techniques shown and practise on your own time. You will be shown the basic technique of forming the stone setting in flat metal, setting stones, trouble shooting, and finishing the setting. If time permits, setting into irregular surfaces can be covered.
This course is a technique course only - not one where you come away with a “finished” item.
