Pakuranga Choral Society presents "Songs through the Centuries" - spanning 500 years of music.
Conductor, Stuart Weightman, has assembled a programme which is a model of its kind: exciting and adventurous.
Examples of the best music of many contrasting styles, vividly illustrate the great scope of music over half a millennium.
The dignity and solemnity of Bruckner's "Locus Iste" contrasts with the dynamism of an extract from the great Vivaldi "Gloria" and coming up to the present, John Rutter's fine motet "This is the Day" written for the royal wedding of William and Kate.
On the secular side, Thomas Morley's bright motet "Sing We and Chant It" is set against the vigour and masculinity of Matyas Serber's "Hungarian Folk Songs".
In a more popular vein, special settings of "Loch Lomond", "Old Folks at Home" and "Jamaican Farewell" have a common theme of nostalgia.
This concert will be a great opportunity to hear fine choral music admirably presented.
Organist Michael Ball and resident pianist Valerie Sowerby will accompany the programme.
