“Yvette Parsons invited plenty of laughs into her living room. However, this one-woman show also revealed the complicated emotions of a lonely celebration... Silent Night wasn't all that quiet. The world of Irene McMunn left ample room for interpretation and thoroughly deserved the emphatic applause”.- Leonie Hall, Nelson Mail,17 October 2011
It’s Christmas Day and somewhere in Sunnynook - Irene McMunn, is throwing a party! She’s wrapped the presents, sorted the tree, now all she has to do is wait for the guests to arrive...
Silent Night is a poignant portrayal of a senior life living solo, delicately unfolding a world where all is not as it seems.
Yvette says, ‘Irene McMunn is representative of the iconic New Zealand woman who came of age between the wars. This generation of women have always held a special fascination for me. I hope that in creating the character of Irene McMunn I help preserve a fast disappearing facet of New Zealand's cultural heritage, freed from the usual clichéd depiction; connecting her story with the real world we live in, and with our hearts.”
