Shane Hansen celebrates his first solo exhibition with Letham Gallery, showing a range of new and personal works. The Good, The Bad and The Extremely Ugly is a collection of works covering Hansen's 3 year journey from his outset as a visual artist to the present day. Some of the ‘mahi’ on show is a definite departure from the clean, vibrant, expression of love for whānau, flora & fauna and cultural discovery that he is best known for. These are an eclectic mix of works; rougher, sketchier and quirkier, with some that dig a little deeper emotionally and expose an unseen side to the artist and how he observes and contemplates the world in which he lives.

“I'm leaving it up to those who view my work to decide what is good, bad or extremely ugly. Everyone's perception of that is different. Some of the works on show, such as Pull My Finger and McRangi could be viewed by some as crass, rude [or] ridiculous, but by others as humorous, insightful and heartfelt. It may also change the way people view me personally, which could be good, bad or ugly. My interest lies in how the exhibition is received”.
