Winner of the 2011 US National Book Award for Fiction and a 2012 Alex Award for her second novel Salvage the Bones, Jesmyn Ward has written a moving story of a Mississippi Gulf family and their community in the 12-day period leading up to and just following the devastating Hurricane Katrina.
Publishers Weekly labelled Ward “a refreshing new voice in American literature”.
Ward’s work is evocative of a people and a place and eloquently explores universal themes of challenge and survival with an impressive intensity.
She speaks with Finlay Macdonald.
