Guest Speaker: Marie Brown - "Compensating for ecological harm in development - what are we really achieving?"

Planning agencies in New Zealand commonly allow development to proceed on the condition that positive conservation measures are carried out to compensate for ecological harm. This research examines what those requirements are, if and how they are implemented and asks what can be done to improve outcomes. Marie Brown is a third year doctoral student at the University of Waikato's Environmental Research Institute, supervised by Professors Bruce Clarkson and Barry Barton.
