After the first Relay For Life in Porirua was such a huge success in 2010, it is back in 2012!
What is Relay For Life?
It's an overnight event that you'll never forget! Relay For Life offers you the chance to make a difference in your community - and have a great time in the process. The Cancer Society's Relay For Life is a community celebration rather than an athletic event - anyone and everyone can participate. Teams come together from local businesses, clubs, families/whanau/fanau, friends, marae, schools etc, to walk and jog through the night, with at least one team member on the track at all times. When not on the track, teams enjoy a festive, carnival-like environment with heaps of activities and entertainment.
What makes Relay For Life such a great event?
Relay For Life allows us to honour all those who have been affected by cancer and to raise funds for local Cancer Society support and information services. Relay For Life strengthens relationships between the Cancer Society and our local communities.
Building a team:
Teams consist of 8 - 15 members. Each member is asked to pay $20 each (to cover costs of relay t-shirt, all activities and entertainment and breakfast on Sunday). In the time leading up to the event, each member raises money by collecting donations or holding fundraising ventures. Each member is asked to raise $200. (Past participants often say it's easier than it says).
