Our universities have become the breeding grounds of new literary talent; notably the International Institute of Modern Letters under Bill Manhire in Wellington and, more recently, the Master of Creative Writing (MCW) at The University of Auckland, whose graduates have gone on to publish a wide range of work, including this year's Best First Book of Poetry (Briefcase by John Adams). Acclaimed novelist and 2012 Master of Creative Writing Convener, Emily Perkins, will introduce some of this emerging talent with a session devoted to a group of students who are experiencing the refining fire of mentoring by some of our best writers. This is a chance to discover brand-new voices and hear about the joys and challenges of the creative writing workshop.
