The Rangitaiki River Kayak Marathon is a 42 kilometre trip down the Rangitaiki River from the Matahina Dam to Thornton, near Whakatane. It can be paddled solo or as a relay team of four people, with each person kayaking roughly 10 kilometres. There is also a shorter 22 kilometre event - KG Kayaks River Ramble - which starts in Te Teko and finishes at the Thornton Domain.
The finish line is situated on the Thornton Domain where the Rangtaiki River Festival will be in full swing. Food, music and other sporting events.
