This exhibition, mounted to celebrate Hotere's 80th birthday, traverses the prodigious career of New Zealand's most significant living artist. The artworks selected, sourced from the Hocken and several private collections, point to the milestones and quieter moments of Hotere's career. Several 'Black Windows' and large banners typical of the artist's output are shown alongside paintings from his little known 'Zero' series of 1966/7. The show centres on works that use black, the window motif, the circle and the infinity symbol to simultaneously suggest notions of nothingness and boundlessness.
