A "picnic at the punt" event, a gathering of vintage & classic cars, is being held to celebrate the Tuapeka Mouth Ferry's 115 years of operation on the Clutha River. The Tuapeka Ferry (or punt, as it is locally called) is the last water-driven public punt in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a valued local heritage item... and a national treasure!
This event is being organised by the Clutha Valley Tuapeka Heritage Trust. The Trust is dedicated to the preservation & promotion of heritage places & artifacts in our area.
The Trust is currently organising a variety of fun entertainment for the day... food, beverage & craft stalls, with a variety of live music... definitely a fun country day out for all the family!
We will also be holding a brief "Punt 115th Birthday" ceremony on the day, at the Tuapeka Ferry site, with invited guests/speakers recounting the interesting history of NZ river punts.
Beaumont Jets will be operating independently on the day, offering attendees informative guided trips (3kms) down the Clutha River, to view the historic Matau Paddle-steamer at rest.
Our Trust would like to extend to you a warm invitation to attend the Picnic At the Punt.
We have invited vintage & car clubs from all over Otago & Southland. Our event is expect to draw a good mix of Otago/Southland residents, as well as car enthusiasts.
Event admission cost yet to be confirmed.
Vendor invitation! It could provide your business with a good opportunity to interact, test market or sell your product to both urban & rural family groups in a relaxed social setting. The Trust is providing the event/venue, and vendors act independently on the day to take business advantage of the opportunity.
We will be supporting vendors by marketing/promoting our event widely, on local radio stations, flyers, posters in retail outlets, online at our Ferry website & through our social media presence on Facebook - (search for) "Tuapeka Ferry & Friends". Vendor site cost = $10.
Could your please advise our Event Coordinator, Heather Dodds, of your interest in becoming a vendor. Your earliest reply to Heather would be appreciated, as it's helpful to our event planning.
Regards,
Roger Hodgkinson.
Secretary CVT Heritage Trust.
