Hear twelve presentations from artists, designers, and educators from the Maori community as part of a unique Matariki event. Fast-paced, entertaining, funny and informative, Pecha Kucha Night is a global phenomenon with events in over 400 cities throughout the world.
Twelve invited speakers show 20 images and present ideas they are passionate about. The trick is that each slide is projected for only 20 seconds. There is only six minutes and forty seconds for each presentation and, once started, no stopping!
Dunedin's Pecha Kucha Night #14 is a special Midwinter event. The rising of Puaka (the star, Rigel) and Matariki (the constellation, Pleiades) marks the coming of the traditional Maori New Year. It will be part of the Puaka Matariki celebrations coordinated by the Dunedin City Council and the presenters will be from the Maori community or people who have a relationship with te ao Maori.
As ever with Pecha Kucha Night there will be plenty of opportunity to mingle and talk with speakers and fellow audience members. There will be refreshments available including tea, coffee and snacks.
For the first time, the event will be held in the afternoon with a special price to encourage wider family participation. This event is for everyone!
Pecha Kucha #14 is a partnership between the Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust and Dunedin City Council Puaka Matariki Steering Roopu.
Held in Burns Hall.
