Opotiki Half-Marathon Dunes Dash

Walk start: 9am
Run start: 10am.

The inaugural Ōpōtiki Half-Marathon Dunes Dash will take place along the brand new Mōtū Trails Cycleway Track. The 21 kilometre track will start at Memorial Park and follow the Dunes Trail. The trail follows the beach and heads towards the Mōtū Road to the other side of Tirohanga and back.

This is a great route for both fun-runners and more competitive athletes. This beautiful trail meanders along the spectacular stretch of coast east of Ōpōtiki and forms a 9.5 kilometre link to the bottom of Mōtū Road. The trail is a reflection of the natural beauty unique to the East Coast - unspoiled views of the Pacific Ocean and the rugged hinterland of the East Cape.

The race start will be in Memorial Park with a circuit around the stop-banks to then traverse our impressive new Pakowhai ki Otutaopuku Bridge. Admire the great vistas of the East Cape along the undulating dune track. Elevation is minimal with just a few short slopes along the way. There will be a short section over the beach at low tide and through a shallow stream at the Tirohanga Bluffs to rejoin the Mōtū Trails track on the section maintained by DOC.

All runners and walkers are welcome to take part along this great track in the following categories:
- 18+ Women’s Open;
- 18+ Men’s Open;
- Under 18 boys;
- Under 18 girls;
- Over 40 Veterans women;
- Over 40 Veterans men;
- Walkers adult;
- Walkers under 18.

There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place in each category.

Entries can also be taken on the day - cash only. Registration start 8am for a 9am Walker start and 10am Start for runners.
