Bring in 2012 on January 1st with the Garden Opera Company on stage in Williamson Park, at the Whangamata Summer Festival.
The Garden Opera Company is a calendar favourite for locals and visitors alike. We don't get to see much opera in the Coromandel so this event is one to look forward to. Ian & Sally Campbell run a tight, well rehearsed group of very talented singers - most of whom are en-route to the NZ Opera School which begins on January 3. It is our pleasure to host this talented bunch of artists, they always please the crowds with favourites from operas, musicals and variations to well loved songs. Bring a blanket and a low chair - even a picnic (but don't forget the liquor ban!). Tonight we will bring buckets around for donations to help stage this event.
The Whangamata Summer Festival is run by a not for profit community group who fundraise all year round, in order to provide a focus for youth, young families, locals, holiday makers and the elderly, by staging night time concerts, volleyball competitions, skate competitions, a kids holiday programme and a huge craft market day. This evening's music is the 2nd night of a five night programme with a range of musical genres - something for everyone's taste!
The Festival boasts a huge Craft Market Day on December 28th 9am - 9pm in Williamson Reserve, on all three fields. That same night for the tweenies we host the Katy Perry Tribute Show - The first night on our programme! This will be a ticketed event at the Whangamata Area School Hall. Following this join us for free concerts nightly from December 29th 2011. The bands will be on stage at Williamson Park from 8pm.
Please note: A public liquor ban will be enforced throughout the holiday period.
Entertainment for the Whangamata Summer Festival week is proudly brought to you by sponsors: NZCT, the Lion Foundation, Southern Trust, The Whangamata Community Board, Trust Waikato, Sky City Hamilton Trust, plus more rolling in! We are supported also by Pitcher Electrical Whangamata, Whangamata Wellness, Take Note Whangamata, Whangamata Signs, plus many volunteers and community members without whom, it could not be a free event. Our volunteers will be out selling glowsticks each night to add to the lively atmosphere, so support the Festival by supporting our sponsors and get 'glowed up'!
