For the first time in more than a decade World Of WearableArt™ (WOW®) is touring a selection of the very best costumes from their historic collection, in the exhibition Off the Wall: World of WearableArt™.

Wellington's 3D Creative, in conjunction with the WOW® team, has created an innovative and interactive show in order to showcase the 30 garments chosen for the show.

Selecting the garments was a collaborative process between WOW® founder Suzie Moncrieff and Sir Richard Taylor from Weta Workshop. All garments will be displayed so that visitors can get really Up Close to them. In addition each garment will have a story about it which relates to the design, creativity and innovation required to produce wearable art to a successful competition standard.

Moncrieff says “In Off the Wall you’ll see anything from 20,664 plastic collar stays to twelve leather suitcases, from recycled wool sacks to wood, corrugated iron to kitchen utensils or taxidermied birds to sumptuous silks.”

A collection of these garments will also be accompanied by the work of a significant New Zealand artist, including Bill Hammond, Grahame Sydney and Timo Ranneli, adding another level of story telling to each piece.

Rotorua Museum will be the first North Island stop for the Off the Wall: World of WearableArt™ exhibition, and will show throughout the summer, opening 10 November 2012 and concluding 10 February 2013.

Off the Wall: World of WearableArt™ Up Close is presented by WOW® with major partners Hewlett Packard, Mainfreight and Brancott Estate.

Adult entry into Rotorua Museum is $18. Rotorua residents receive free admission with proof of ID.
