In a desperate attempt to escape a doomed life of shame and humiliation, Oedipus has started a new life far from his supposed homeland, only to unwittingly fall into the very fate he feared. The land of Thebes is being attacked with plague, and the message from the gods is thus: a murderer walks among you, and must be removed before the town will have peace. A determined man, Oedipus seeks justice and safety for the townspeople. In delving into the mysterious death of the previous king, Oedipus unravels a much closer connection than expected, and so unfolds the tragedy of Oedipus Rex.
