No standards - Jake Baxendale & friends play all originals...
Jake Baxendale collects a few jazz friends together to bring you a concert of his original tunes.
Jake is a recent graduate from Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music, and currently tutors jazz theory, practices saxophone in the wee small hours and bakes bread in the weekends. You can catch him performing regularly with Wellington supergroup, The Troubles. Callum Allardice, guitarist and pyjama enthusiast, will also bring some tunes to the table. These compositions - some performed for the first time - represent their own unique direction and approach to improvisation and jazz idiom. Joining them on the stage are alumni Shaun Anderson on drums and Scott Maynard on bass, plus special guests.
Not to be missed, if you're into that sort of thing!
This concert is part of the NZSM's Friday Lunchtime Concert series. If you would like to keep up-to-date with NZSM news and events subscribe to our monthly e-newsletter, Dawn Chorus.
