Nikau Trio: Karen Batten (flute), Madeline Sakofsky (oboe) and Margaret Guldborg (cello) are professional freelance musicians based in Wellington. United by their love of chamber music they formed Nikau Trio in 2009. For this concert in the NZSM Friday Lunchtime series, Jane Young will play cello as Margaret is currently on maternity leave.
Today's programme features works by Edwin Carr, Hector Villa-Lobos, Vincent Persichetti, Graham Waterhouse, Andre Jolivet, Alberto Ginastera and Graham Powning and includes solo works for cor anglais and alto flute: a rare opportunity to hear these unusual instruments.
Nikau Trio has performed for Chamber Music New Zealand nationally, in the St Andrew’s-on-the-Terrace Concert Series of 2010 and NZSM Friday Lunchtime series 2011 and 2012, and for the Old St Paul’s and St Mark’s lunchtime concerts. Their repertoire spans the musical eras giving a varied and interesting programme.
The concert is free and members of the public are welcome.
Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music is a joint enterprise of Massey University and Victoria University of Wellington.
