Hampton Downs

The largest classic and historic car race meeting ever held in New Zealand will be happening again at Hampton Downs in 2012, this time celebrating BMW.

There will be over 400 cars in 10 race classes each weekend consisting of Group A and Historic Touring Car Challenge, BMW E30 class, BMW Open class, Formula 5000’s, Pre 1978 Saloons & GTs, Pre '85 & Invited Open Saloons & GTs, Pre '78 & Invited Sports, Sports Racing & GT cars, Historic Formula Ford, Classic Motor Cycles (1st weekend only), Formula Junior and Invited Cars (1st weekend only), Classic Trials (2nd weekend only) and Super Historics (2nd weekend only).

There will be a lunch time parade of classic and modern BMW cars and motorcycles on Saturday and Sunday of both weekends, led by a BMW safety car.

It is anticipated there will be brief air displays by the RNZAF Red Checkers on Sunday 29th January 2012. This air display is subject to confirmation.

There will be one 4 lap on-track demonstration per day of selected cars.

After watching the racing during the day – come to one of the evening functions and meet the racing car drivers, hear their accounts about the day and their previous experiences as we re-live this memorable classic era.
