The definition:
Hurricane parties were formed by people living in the southern hurricane areas of the United States, especially in the New Orleans area. Events are held by people who, for differing reasons, cannot or choose not to evacuate during a hurricane warning. Hosts may also lack hurricane supplies, therefore they invite others to stay with them so as to share supplies and company. However, these events are usually more centered around the people and the socialness of the event.

A good Hurricane Party gathers a good size crowd and lasts quite some time. With that in mind this year features an awesome line-up of superb musicians who we have heard before in this or other configurations. Multi-instrumentalist Adam Page teams up with drummer/producer Riki Gooch (Fat Freddy's Drop, Crowded House, Trinity Roots, Hollie Smith) as Band of Thousands for a set like you never heard before. Auckland's six piece Spiral fuses funk, soul and samba with jazzy grooves with a line-up of musicians who have played with dDub and Tahuna Breaks. Punchy horn lines, raging solos and melodic vocals, people can expect some good energy. A live funk band, the scintillating, irrepressible, Eggs are Wellington's true super group. Featuring heavy-duty players from Fat Freddy's Drop, The Phoenix Foundation and Twinset, with vocals, horns, guitar, organ, drums and percussion, The Eggs have all the basses covered. Regulars at Matterhorn (Cuba Mall) this line up of ten players can pump out the good vibes all night long. Packed dance-floors are guaranteed.

Batucada Sound Machine's reputation is unquestionably in their live performance. The band thrives in a festive atmosphere and is renowned for getting crowds moving whether they are performing in Europe, Asia or Oceania. The band's percussion-heavy rhythm section, blazin' horns, chunky guitars, and soulful vocals all fuse effortlessly to intertwine Brazilian, funk, hip-hop, afro-beat and Pacific-soul influences.
