When Emperor Penguins settle into winter, the male stays with the egg, enduring the extreme weather while balancing the egg on his feet, waiting for the chick to hatch. The female swims her long journey to the open ocean to gather food. Neither the winter, or the female’s journey appear to take longer than is necessary. The egg hatches, the father waits with the newborn chick, and eventually the mother returns.
With all its parts finally in one place, Metaphoria presents work by Tahi Moore, Daniel Webby, Matt Henry, Alexandra Savtchenko-Belskaia and Matthew George Richard Ward. Curated by Amelia Harris
Metaphoria is the first exhibition of the 2012 Curatorial Season. Between 23 February and 21 April St Paul St Gallery is commissioning a suite of seven exhibitions, a symposium and publication to make up the 2012 Curatorial Season. Focusing on emerging curators and utilising the quick turnaround nature of St Paul St Gallery Three, the 2012 Curatorial Season aims to be journalistic in tone, attempting to chart the local practices that create this burgeoning discipline.
