Hauraki Plains College, once Ngatea District High School, celebrates 100 years of schooling on the 23rd, 24th and 25th March 2012.
Our school began in a borrowed classroom with 14 pupils from the pioneering families of Ngatea, and has now grown to over 600 students from an area which includes all of the Hauraki Plains, Orere Point, Mangatawhiri, Mangatangi, Maramarua and Kaiaua.
Over the last one hundred years, our school has been through wars, depressions, epidemics, and teacher and student shortages. It has educated thousands of students and seen some exceptional academic, sporting and cultural achievements.
