The volunteers at Mapua Library are 'Soaring Again' with their second Literary Festival. Three days of activities and something to suit all tastes. The festival opens with a cocktail party in Mapua Bowling Club and a first opportunity to hear patron Joe Bennett share his wry take on life. Join the library volunteers, Joe and local dignitaries for a light-hearted start to the festival programme along with the music of Craig Smith.
Two creative writing workshops take place on Saturday. A half day for children led by Melanie Drewery in Mapua Library and a full day for adults with Joe Bennett in the Boat House at beautiful Mapua Wharf. Great venues and great leaders to get the creative juices flowing.
A fun Saturday afternoon for children in the library with readings of their own work, guest authors Craig Smith and Anna Crosbie and prize-giving. Three competitions are open until 15 February 2012, short story writing, penning a limerick and a literary quiz.
The grand finale on Sunday will see the Village Hall transformed into the French Cafe Ooh! La! La! Joe Bennett, Jenny Pattrick, Vanda Symon and David Young will share their thoughts and the library volunteers will serve platters of food and a glass of wine or two. Local bookseller 'Take Note' of Motueka will be on hand with plenty of books for sale.
