A photo exhibition in Left Bank Arcade, Cuba Mall will offer rare insight into the lives of 12 Wellingtonians during this year’s Fringe Festival. ‘Life Stills’ is a collection of photographic storyboards which allow us to glimpse moments within the daily lives of those around us. The exhibition is the first project by All Corners, a Wellington collective who tell people’s stories through creative and interactive projects.
“This exhibition is about connecting with those around us. It illustrates the beauty in the daily tasks that we share and the small intricacies that make us unique” says Hannah Mackintosh, Director of All Corners. “My hope is that people will enjoy sharing a small insight into the lives of some of the different people of Wellington”.
Life Stills features an exciting range of photographers with backgrounds in music documentary, social justice, film and travel photography. Each photographer has collaborated with an individual or group in the community to create a piece of work that explores aspects of their daily life.
Freelance photographer and designer Pat Shepherd has worked in the New Zealand music scene and is the creative mind behind Exposure Lifestyle magazine. He has recently spent time on the Thai-Burma border as coordinator of the Little Lotus Project. For Life Stills he has been working with a former refugee from Burma. “I'm super excited to be part of Life Stills. In the past I've documented refugees from Burma who are based in Thailand, having the chance to document a day in their life in NZ is going to be a great experience."
Portrait photographer Stephanie Kuttner has always been fascinated by the lives of those around her; “our neighbours, workmates, the dairy owner, the taxi driver. To me they tell the strongest stories of survival, hardship, love and help us reflect on our own existence. Life Stills is a wonderful opportunity to explore that fascination further.”
The exhibition will open at Left Bank on Friday, 24th February and display until Saturday 3rd March. There will be an opening event from 5pm on Friday 24th February. Visit allcorners.org.nz for more information.
