NZCT Women's Tour is being staged in the Manawatu in February 2012. NZCT Women's Tour is a five-day tour for professional woman cyclists, and attracts a top international field including Olympic and World champion riders. They will be racing on the same stages as the Men's Tour, which will be held in January. Jorge Sandoval is the organiser of both the Men's and Women's tours. He has a long history of running these types of events around New Zealand and we are very privileged that these 2 events will be staged completely in the Manawatu. This fits well with the Manawatu District and Palmerston North City Councils vision to be “the best place to ride a bike.”

We have timed the start of the long and short courses of 'La Femme Fun Ride' so you can not only see the start of stage 4 of the NZCT Women's Tour but you will be back at the finish to see them finish. While you are waiting for them to return, we will be serving you with a fabulous healthy lunch and you will be able to have a look in your race pack at a few special treats that we are planning on including just for you.

It is always exciting to be able to say I raced on the same course as “the pros” on the same day. Even more so if you can say you raced at the same time and even finished before the pros. You don’t need to add that your course was shorter. You got out there and did it. And that is what we will be emphasising - not how fast you went or how far you went but that you participated and had a great time.

If you have never done a cycle ride with a huge start line then this is the event for you. We will not have to jostle for a place on the start line with a pile of men all fired up to go. There will be friendly chatter and every woman in sight will be encouraging everyone around them and wishing them good luck and have fun. We want to support and encourage woman who have never done a fun ride to have a go.

If you have trained for a women's triathlon, then don’t just stop when your event has finished, take the next step and carry on with regular physical activity. If you haven’t already, you will meet a great bunch of like minded woman who like to get out and enjoy the fabulous roads that we have to ride on. The roads will be marshalled and a support vehicle will follow the riders.
