New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival presents Klaus Doldinger's Passport. Cavell Leitch Law Jazz In the Geo Series.
Passport is the jazz fusion band formed in 1971 by saxophonist, pianist, composer and arranger Klaus Doldinger. Their ground-breaking recordings include Cross Collateral, Infinity Machine and Iguacu, and they remain one of the most celebrated live acts in their native Germany.
In his unique melodious style, Doldinger’s Passport weaves beautifully haunting melodies, picks up the pace with infectious sounds and rhythms often inspired by his trips to Brazil and Morocco.
Regarded as one of the most successful German jazz artists of all time, Klaus Doldinger is an award-winning musician known globally for his film scores to the acclaimed German U-Boat film Das Boot (1981) and The NeverEnding Story (1984), as well as for his many accomplishments which include numerous German Music Awards, a Monterey Jazz Festival Award, a German honorary Medal First Order, tours to more than 50 countries and a back catalogue of more than 2000 compositions.
