Experience Kermadec come alive, hear the story behind the expedition and exhibition.
In May 2011 at the invitation of Pew Environment Group's Ocean Legacy Programme, nine artists travelled to the Kermadecs, a remote a part of New Zealand, located in the South Pacific Ocean, 1,000 km north of Auckland, on board the HMNZS Otago. The Kermadecs is an area the National Geographic Society identified in 2010 as one of the last pristine sites left in the world's oceans.
At the speaker series event entitled "Experiencing the Kermadecs", Jason O'Hara and Bruce Foster will talk about their participation in, and contributions to, the Kermadec project. Their Kermadec works will be discussed as part of their lifelong preoccupation with the ocean and its shoreline. Bruce Foster will also screen the film he shot on the journey.
The lecture will be held in the Aotearoa Evolves Gallery at the museum and will start at 6.30pm. The first hour will comprise the speakers and then the next hour will be spent in the Edmiston Gallery discussing and viewing Kermadec, the exhibition.
Speakers - Bruce Foster, Jason O'Hara
