Katikati Folk Club - Mike Harding and Gumboot Tango

Gumboot Tango are Mike Harding (guitar, harmonica), Janet Muggeridge (mandolin), Steve Muggeridge (guitar), and Wayne Morris (drums), celebrating New Zealand songs and songwriters with a farmyard-infectious humour guaranteed to put a smile on your feet and the swing back in a Taranaki gate.

Performing Kiwi songs from rustic roots to big-smoke blues, Gumboot Tango are an earthy yet sophisticated musical experience. Live in concert and on their CD Rubber Sole Gumboot Tango present songs that tell something of New Zealand’s special musical heritage, from the daggy and quirky, through country/folk to modern pop/rock plus original songs.

Gumboot Tango was formed in 1994 when Mike Harding joined Alan Muggeridge, his wife Janet and brother Steve to record a set of ten Taranaki songs and perform them at the 1995 Taranaki Festival of the Arts.

Further musical adventures followed – gigs, festivals, recordings, the addition of other band member and friend Wayne Morris on drums. After Alan’s tragic death in 2000, the band continued with the present line-up, maintaining Alan’s presence with several of the songs he wrote and recorded while living in south Taranaki.
