Karioi Classic - Cycle Ride

Karioi Classic goes into 3rd gear.

Things are shaping up for the 3rd edition of Raglan’s 47km cycle race around Mt Karioi on Sunday 29th July.

This year we have added some exciting new categories to the race. For the fanatics, there will be the Karioi Double Buster, when going around once is not enough… so, why not do it twice. The winner will be named Karioi Emperor and will be awarded with a 2 night stay at a bach in Ohakune, kindly donated by Bachcare Holiday Homes.

For the stylish cyclists, there will the Karioi Classic Retro Style. This category will be open to riders with bikes pre-1980. So dust off that old 10sp Morrisson, dress up in style and enter.

Also, up for grabs are the titles of King and Queen of the mountain, awarded to the fastest male and female in the single lap, with the winners names joining previous winners on our Chris Meek trophy. Plus, the winners receive the specially handmade keyrings designed and made by local artist, Chris Meek.

There will also be age division prizes and the fastest male and female single speed riders will be awarded on the day.

Start of the race will be from Raglan Fire Station in the centre of town, heading clockwise around our beautiful mountain, taking in breathtaking scenery, rolling farmland, harbour and ocean views. The race finish will be at Te Kopua Domain on Raglan Airfield, the grass finish will certainly add something a little different for riders.

Road closures will be in place to insure safety to competitors and once again there will be some mean spot prizes.

We hope your training is going well. And if you have forgotten about it, now is a good time to start spinning those legs and get into some serious climbing.
