Rakes, rogues and reprobates.
Who was hung twice at Execution Dock? What was a poacher's fate? What is the link between a famous playwright and a mad dog?
Folk songs are rich in the history of the seedier side of life in Britain from the earliest of times - songs that feed the imagination about times we are glad we didn’t live through, yet which still fascinate us.
Ian Bartlett’s Rakes and Rogues set will bring those characters alive again in songs and stories. With a few tunes on the cauld wind pipes* and whistles (not at the same time!) and some friends to join him from time to time, you’ll hear about, and sing about, characters you’ll be pleased you never met.
(*Cauld wind pipes is a Scottish term referring to any Scottish bagpipe that is bellows-blown rather than blown with the mouth.)
The guest performance will be preceded by a variety of club singers in the first half. See the organisers if you'd like to sing or play.
All welcome.
