Girls are facing huge issues in our modern society - issues of image, acceptance and relationships are particularly hard. There are many things parents can do to help their daughters build resilience and strength. Understanding our task as parents in guiding our children through to adulthood can be a challenge. Girls' creativity and natural strengths can easily be lost in the pressure to grow up fast in our media-saturated culture. Fathers play a vital role in a girl's view of herself, especially as she negotiates puberty. A father is the first man his daughter will give her heart to so he has a special role of trust in her life. Boys need strong leaders and role models in their lives. Boys will automatically get the 'hardware' to be adult men, but they need to download the 'software' to be real men from good role models.
Even if your family is all of the same gender, it's great to get an insight into raising the opposite sex. You'll go home from this event with new ideas, heaps of tips to try, and a big dose of optimism.
