Local art lovers will need the long Queens Birthday Weekend this year to view the unique exhibition featuring nearly 300 works.
The Hibiscus Hospice Women’s Committee’s seventh annual art exhibition and sale is on from Thursday May 31st throughout Queen’s Birthday Weekend to Monday June 4th – with proceeds going to support the work of Hospice in our community.
Organiser Vicki Lambert says the 2012 event promises to have even wider appeal than last year, with over 20 new artists exhibiting and an emphasis on affordable art.
‘We have 70 artists from all over New Zealand participating, with over 250 works of art for sale plus another 40 that have been donated for the opening night and silent auctions. Amongst them is a wonderful array of works for interiors including traditional oil paintings, acrylics, watercolours, mixed media, photography and prints.’
‘Our 3-dimensional works include ceramics, fabric, fibre, glassware, terracotta, wood, copper, aluminium and steel.’
‘We have works for outdoor walls and gardens, as well as items for tables and sideboards inside. And there is a range of jewellery if you want something a little more personal,’ says Vicki. ‘Also Estuary Arts Centre has a dedicated outdoor display area now for our garden art.’
The exhibition opens with a Preview Night and Auction on Thursday May 31st from 7pm – 9pm.
‘Our preview night is an opportunity for those who want to have first access to the works for sale, as well as a chance to bid on those donated for auction.
‘It’s also a lot of fun and a chance to meet many of the exhibiting artists,’ she adds.
Tickets cost $25 which includes wine and hors d’oeuvres. These can be booked online at www.hchospice.org.nz or by phoning Hibiscus Hospice on 09 421 9180.
Opening hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are 9.30am – 4pm and on Monday, 9.30am – 2pm. Entry on these days will be by gold coin donation.
This year’s exhibition has been proudly supported by House of Travel, Orewa & Browns Bay
