Heavenly Light Quartet

A rare opportunity to hear Australia's hottest a cappella gospel quartet, in Auckland for one weekend only. The Heavenly Light Quartet sings the tightly-arranged yet passionate songs from the Golden Era of black gospel quartets like the Swan Silvertones, the Dixie Hummingbirds and the Pilgrim Travellers. The members are all professional singers and choir directors and each is a soloist in his own right. All have been key members in Australia's premier gospel choir, the Café of the Gate of Salvation (which toured NZ in 2007). Since their inception in 1996, the group has sung at all the major Australian music festivals (including WOMAD and the East Coast Blues & Roots Festival), and has toured through Spain and France.

The group's musical director is Tony Backhouse (baritone/lead) who has studied black gospel in the USA over 20 years, and who runs vocal workshops throughout the world.

The sensational voices of Stuart Davis and William Selwyn are the tenor leads and pumping bass and backbone of groove is Rob Maxwell Jones.

Supporting HLQ will be Auckland gospel choir Heaven Bent who celebrated their 15th year in 2011.
